Top Link Festival - March 2008
Once again, 4 students from Knowles Hill School attended the Top Link Festival held at Marjons in March. The students were kept
busy throughout the day, developing games which could be played with children in the morning, and developing skills to plan
sporting events in the afternoon. Credit to the four students (pictured below): Lauren R (Yr10), Sam W (Yr
9), Jack C (Yr9) and Charlie H (Yr8) for their hard work and excellent behaviour during the course of the day.

Netball Tournament Years 5 & 6
A total of seven teams participated in the netball tournament for years 5 & 6 on Wednesday 14th November.
The event was held at Knowles Hill School
and yet again credit to those JSLA/CSLA students from KHS who helped out during the course of the afternoon and made the event
a success.
Some exciting netball was played throughout the afternoon between the teams from Knowles Hill Learning Community and
those from Coombeshead Learning Community. The games were played in high spirit and good zest and an impressive standard of
netball throughout the primary school children participating. Congratulations to Kingskerswell
Primary School for winning the whole event. They were joined by Highweek
and Decoy Primary School as the top three
schools went through to the Partnership Finals held on Wednesday 5th December at South Dartmoor Community College.
Once
again, big thanks to students from Knowles Hill
School; Holly W, Amy C, Charlotte S, Nikki C and Ryan S for their help
throughout the event.

Our Young Sport Leaders have been very busy at Knowles Hill over the last few months. Below are some
of the activities they have been involved in.
Loughborough Camp
In the week before Summer half term I was lucky enough to be invited to a camp in Loughborough University. After
a 6 hour journey by train up to Loughborough we were split into 26 different groups, I was in team USA. On day one it
was all about team building, with two sportshalls the size of two football pitches, we were able to fit all 300 volunteers
into a sportshall with team building activities, such as timed activities and other games, as well as an assembly hosted by
the head ofthe Youth Sport Trust and Dame Kelly Holmes.
With an early start, the second day was filled with theory about how we can try and involve more younsters in sport,
theories about leadership and how a young persons head can be easily filled with good or bad thoughts about sport and their
own lives. On our third day we had the chance to get a qualification with any sport on a list, I chose athletics.
It was a day ran by top UK athletics officials. It was a good day, full of facts and new information for the sport.
On the last day we recapped the week, even holding an olympic gold medal! In the evening there was a rave for us
all, with a dress code of bright colours - it was a fun evening.
The whole week was such an amazing experience, with lots of freebies, lots of memories and lots of new friends!

throughout the course of the afternoon.
The

Multi Skills Club - Summer 07
Over the past 6 weeks we have been running a multi-skills club after school for children in Years 5, 6 and 7. The
club is designed for children who don't have very good motor skills and struggle with simple things like co-ordination and
balance. We have been running activities aimed at improving these aspects such as throwing a ball into a net from different
distances.
The club has gone very well and the children taking part have enjoyed it and have learnt a lot.

Judo Summer Fun Fest
At the Summer Fun Fest we learnt that Judo originates from Japan and that it is a contact sport. We now know how
to throw people, fight properly and defend ourselves. We had crash mats so we didn't hurt ourselves, and had really
good coaches helping us and telling us what to do.
It was really fun and we all enjoyed it. You should try it!
