Towards the end of the summer term the South Brent , Landscove and Marldon represented the Learning Community at the School Sport Partnership Athletics Finals.  South Brent finished 1st and Marldon 3rd.  .  South Brent went on to represent the School Sport Partnership in the regional finals in Torbay. The first tournament this term was the Central Venue indoor Athletics Tournament held in the KEVICC spots Hall on the 21st and 28th September.  This was again won by South Brent with The Grove coming second.  Josh G and Ryan J from year 12, who are working to achieve the Level 2 Sports Leadership Award, officiated at these events.

On  the 19th October 8 teams entered the Year 5/6 Hi 5 Netball Tournament.  2 of our smaller schools were successful in this event with Diptford finishing as runners up to Harbertonford.  These schools will now go on to represent the Learning Community at the Partnership Finals.  Josh Green and Ryan Jeffery again officiated at this event.  The picture above shows action from the tournament.

On the 24th September year 10 and year 12 Sports Leaders ran a Key Stage 1 Minifestival for  St Johns, Grove and Stoke Gabriel Primary schools.  Year 6 students from St John’s acted as team leaders.  The photo below shows a selection of the activities run by the KEVICC students.

Girls Year 5/6 Football Festival - January 2008

This was held on the 21st of January.  The event was won by a very strong team from South Brent but all teams who took part showed great improvement over the night.  Expert coaching was provided by coaches from Totnes and Dartington Football Club lead by Mr Blake who were there to promote the development of girls football at their club. This was also facilitated by Tom Hayne Community Sports Coach who has been developing football in the primary schools and Neil Jourdane of the Devon FA.  Jonathan Jones of Year 10 refereed all the matches and in so doing has completed his Junior Football Organiser Award

The presentation of trophies and certificates was made by Liam H, a rising star at Plymouth Argyle and an England Under 16 player. Some teams were fortunate to have Liam join them in the coaching activities.

Year 7 Handball Festival

In November 20 CSLA & JSLA students helped to run a handball festival for one half of year 7.  For some children this was a welcome opportunity to play a game that proved very popular when the Schools Sports Partnership introduced into the primary schools last year.   The sports leaders ran the activities very well considering how little training they had in what was for most a brand new sport.

10 Year 7 students and 2 sports leaders were selected to go to South Dartmoor for a Partnership Handball Festival.

School Sports Partnership Young Ambassadors

In October, following selection from all of the 7 Partnership Secondary Schools, Jim P from KEVICC was chosen alongside Catriona C from South Dartmoor, to act as a Young Ambassador for the School Sport Partnership.  In this role they will not only act as advocates for the work of the School Sport Partnership but are also charged with promoting the 2012 Olympics.  To this end Jim and Catriona got up very early to attend a Young Ambassadors Conference run by the Youth Sport Trust at Bristol City Football Ground.

Dame Kelly Holmes gave an inspirational talk to the students and she and other Olympians worked with the students during their training. The picture below shows Jim and Catriona with Jo Fenn who will be representing GB at the Beijing Olympics in the 800 metres.
