Primary Schools High
5 Netball tournaments at Teignmouth Community College Teignmouth Primary Schools have been focusing on High 5 Netball this term and competed in the Learning Community
tournament which was officiated by the young leaders at Teignmouth Community College. The year 3/4 tournament had 8 teams from 6 schools, the teams each played 3 games in their group then played a playoff
game with the team from the other group who finished in the same position. The standard of Netball produced
was very good with many parents attending creating a wonderful atmosphere. In Pool A Shaldon A won all
3 games with Inverteign doing the same in Pool B. The final proved to be a closely contested encounter
with both teams producing good Netball which had the spectators unsure as to which team would be victorious, at the end of
the game one goal was the difference between the teams with Shaldon A winning 2 – 1. In the 3rd
/ 4th place playoff Trinity triumphed 2 – 1 against Shaldon B to claim third place.

In
the year 5/6 tournament it became apparent from the very first game that Shaldon A would be the team to beat with a 2 –
0 victory over a strong Bishopsteignton B team. Shaldon A went on to win the tournament with a 100% record
and will represent the Teignmouth Learning Community at the Partnership finals along with Trinity who finished 2nd
with an unbeaten record. Congratulations to all teams who produced a good standard of Netball despite the
extremely windy conditions.
In the partnership finals the Teignmouth schools produced some excellent Netball and in the year 5/6 tournament
Shaldon and Trinity met in the 3rd place play off. After extra time the teams could not be separated
so they were declared joint third. In the year 3/4 partnership finals Shaldon and Inverteign both reached
the final to make it a replay of the Teignmouth final. The teams were very evenly matched and even extra
time could not separate the 2 teams. In the end it came down to a shoot out and Shaldon emerged victorious to become the partnership
Netball champions.

Inverteign ‘does
the handball double’

Teignmouth Primary Schools
have been focusing on handball this term and competed in the Learning Community tournament which was organised and ran by
the young leaders at Teignmouth Community College.
The year 3/4 tournament
had 5 teams played each other once in a round robin format. The standard of handball
produced was excellent with many parents attending creating a wonderful atmosphere.
From the first game it became apparent that Inverteign would be the team to beat as they recorded a victory over a
strong Bishopsteignton team, both teams went on to win the remainder of their games and as a result Inverteign won the tournament
and Bishopsteignton finished second, with Shaldon claiming third place.

In the year 5/6 tournament
there were 5 teams competing in a round robin format. In the first game Inverteign
drew 2-2 with Bishopsteignton A, while on pitch 2 Bishopsteignton recorded a 6-2 win over Shaldon, made possible by a master
class in shooting by Becky Gallagher from Bishopsteignton. After a draw between
Bishopsteignton A and B it came down to the last game of the evening between Inverteign and Bishopsteignton B to decide the
champions. After an end to end game the score finished 6-6 which meant both teams
were tied on points meaning goal difference was to decide the winner. The sports
leaders added up the goals before announcing that Inverteign had triumphed by a single goal!
In the South Dartmoor
Partnership finals which is contested by the winners and runners up from all the Learning Communities. Inverteign year 5/6 won their group and finished third place overall turning in some outstanding performances
on the way. Bishopsteignton and Inverteign year 3/4 won the sportsmanship awards
for their group. A special mention also went out to Teignmouth
Community College sports leaders Jay James, Harry Payne, Todd Ballman
and Charlie Ross for their excellent officiating at the tournament.

Area Sports
Teignmouth Schools came
together for their Annual Area Sports at Teignmouth Community College
on a day when the weather was ideal for athletics.
About 170 children took
part and all put in a huge amount of effort in their events. There were some
excellent performances in both track and field events and as usual it all got very exciting towards the end with the final
scores depending on the Relays.
Shaldon boys were impressive
in their changeovers and came storming home in first position. Hazeldown
girls were also fantastic in their race and this clinched the trophy for them by 2 points.
Thanks to all the JSLA
students who had a busy morning and did an excellent job.

Striking & Fielding Festival - June 08
The weather was somewhat
grey for our Year 5/6 festival but despite this spirits were high. Of course
they’d all been cooped up the previous week for SATs!
The children took part
in a circuit of activities which included Dartmoor 3 ball, Kwik Cricket, Tunnel Ball Rounders and Skills Challenges. There were some excellent bowling, catching, throwing and striking skills on display. Communication and working as a team to score highly and get your opponents out is so essential in striking
and fielding games and once the ice was broken there was lots of general chat going on. They had lots of fun and clearly enjoyed
working with children from other schools who they will meet up with again when they move to secondary school.
A
big thank you to Year 9 JSLA students from Teignmouth Community College did a great job organising the children into teams for their games
and leading activities.
Teignmouth Schools Football League
All seven Teignmouth Schools have enjoyed taking part in our league this term at the community college. There were
some very closely contested matches with Stokeinteignhead showing they were really up for taking on the bigger schools.
Inverteign also made significant improvements to their teamplay to finish in a well deserved third place.
It was obvious from the outset, however that there were two teams who stood out. During the crunch match
between Hazeldown and Shaldon pupils from both sides showed great individual flair but it was Shaldon who pulled
off a great team performance, winning 4 - 0. This clinched the winning spot for them. They were
unbeaten with 36 goals and only one against.
Well done to all the children who took part with great enthusiasm and thanks again to our excellent Year 11
referees from TCC who helped the matches run so smoothly

Year 3 &
4 Netball Tournament
The Hi 5 Netball for
Teignmouth and Dawlish schools took place on Wednesday 14th November. Only
five teams were entered but all the teams thoroughly enjoyed the event All
the teams raised their game with each match and games were played in an excellent spirit.
There was really also good feedback from parents who came along to offer their support.
The two teams that
went through from Teignmouth to the Partnership Finals on Tuesday 4th December at South Dartmoor are Shaldon (winners pictured
below) and Hazeldown.

Hazeldown come 4th at Year 3&4 High 5 Netball Finals
Hazeldown Primary School came fourth at the Partnership Finals on Tuesday 4th December. Also well done
to the Inverteign team who won a fair play award in the Year 5&6 finals played on Wednesday 5th December. Despite
the threat of rain on both days all the children played with great enthusiasm and effort - well done!

Hazeldown victorious
in the Teignmouth primary football league

10 teams from the Teignmouth
primary schools competed in the annual football league at Teignmouth Community College. Each team played three games on three cold February evenings. The competition was played in excellent spirit and it was all to play for going into the final evening
with 4 teams still in the running of being crowned champions.
The two leading teams
Our Lady of St Patricks and Hazeldown (A) were only separated by goal difference, coincidentally they played each other in
the first game of the evening and the end to end encounter finished one all. In
the following fixture Bishopsteignton (A) won 1-0 but as they were 5 goals behind on goal difference it looked as though OLSP
would win the tournament. The next game for OLSP was Hazeldown (B) and when OLSP
scored within seconds of the kick off no one could have predicted what was about to happen next. Hazeldown (B) showed real determination and scored 2 goals in quick succession, OLSP persevered and scored
a late goal to draw the game 2-2.

With both Hazeldown
(A) and OLSP winning their final game the trophy went to Hazeldown (A) by one point.
In third place due to an impressive 3 wins on the 3rd week was Shaldon (A) and in forth place was Bishopsteignton
B team.
Well done to all the
children who took part with great enthusiasm and thanks to the excellent Year 11 referees from Teignmouth
Community College who helped the matches run so smoothly. A final congratulation goes to Daniel Coleman from Bishopsteignton who received the sportsman of the tournament
award after being nominated by the referees.
Key Stage 1 Fun Fest at Inverteign
Over a hundred pupils
from Inverteign, Shaldon, Stokenteignhead and Trinity took part in a fun fest at Inverteign school. Each pupil was put into a group with pupils from the other schools and then spent 6 minutes at 15 different
activity stations.
The 15 different stations
were lead by a young leader from Teignmouth Community College
who ensured the pupils had lots of fun while learning new sporting skills.
The first 5 stations
were Gymnastic activities based around the concept of balancing, jumping, rolling, putting weight on their hands and pair
work.

The second 5 stations
were Games activities where the pupils practiced their football dribbling, target throwing, Bouncing bonanza, tennis skills
and the pupils’ favourite beat the goalie.

The final 5 stations were
multi-skills activities where the pupils crossed the swamp, got stuck in the mud, used the ladders as well as playing the
cone game and rat and rabbit.

The pupils’ enthusiasm on the day was infectious and the young leaders can not wait to run the event for Hazeldown,
Bishopsteignton and Our Lady of St Patricks!
Swimming Gala
The noise was deafening,
the temperature hot! Yes, it could only be the Teignmouth schools Swimming Gala
which was held at Dawlish Leisure Centre.
Only four schools were
able to compete this time but everyone was really keen to do well. The childrens
support for each other was really great.
The event went smoothly
with only one hiccup when one of our rubber dinghies for our imfamous boat race developed a slow puncture and one of the schools
had to use a large float instead.
All schools scored more
than 100 points which was an excellent achievement. This is the closest result
ever with Shaldon coming out on top with 127 points, Hazeldown 124, Bishop 113, OLSP 106.
Star of the day was
George Minty from TCC who did a very professional job as starter for all the races.
Thanks again to the other JSLAs who were alL extremely helpful.
Gymnastics Partnership Finals
- March 2008
Teignmouth schools gymnastics teams had
a great time taking part in the partnership finals at Broadmeadow on Tuesday 18th March.
In the YR3/4 age group both Bishopsteignton
showed very good control and quality in their floor and vault. Shaldon, despite
a few wobbly performances of the Step 2 Routine, finished in third place and were delighted with their bronze medals! In the YR5/6 age group first place went to Hazeldown and second place to Shaldon. This is an excellent result for Teignmouth Schools.
The children also really enjoyed gaining
new skills on beam, trampet and the amazing inflatable runway. They also watched
a stunning display by gymnasts from Somersaults Gym Club in Newton Abbot. It
was a great opportunity for them to discover more about the world of gymnastics and what it might be like to be part of a
gymnastics club.

Multi Skills at Shaldon Primary School
At Shaldon we have run KS1 Multiskills
clubs several times over the past two years and I have observed how much it has helped boost the self-esteem of our less able
movers. They have become noticeably happier and more confident in class
PE lessons which has led to further progress in their fundamental movement skills . . .
