Tag Rugby Festival - October 2008
South Dartmoor welcomed Year 6 pupils from 8 Primary Schools on Wednesday
22nd November, and they brought the sunshine with them!
A fantastic event , enjoyed by all, including the year 6 themselves, who
played a festival of tag rugby games, with 30 teams made up of pupils from different schools. children developed their skills
while meeting new friend, who may just be their class mate in September when they become Year 7!
Over 20 Sixth form pupils and GSCE PE student ran the 6 pitch tournament
and ensured all ran smoothly, a huge thank you to them. Each team of year 6 had a SDCC year 9 Team leader, who ensured
the event was an enjoyable experience for all and coached their team throughout their matches.

This was the first of many successful events, combining staff and pupils
from SDCC and Primary Schools. The SDCC and Year 6 students were a credit to their schools.

Thai Primary Roadshow - Wednesday 30th April 2008
Thai staff and students from South Dartmoor's link school Satriwithaya in Bangkok visited four of our Primary
Schools to demonstrate their dance, music and culture. Mr Dinnie, Director of Sport & Health and part of the Dreams
+ Teams project that promotes the link with the Thailand school, introduced the students to the Primary children. They
watched attentively while the 11 Thai students delivered their dances in their colourful costumes. There was then the
opportunity for the children to ask questions about the Thai students lives and Thailand culture.
The four schools visited were:-
Bovey Tracey, Widecombe, St Catherine's and Ilsington.

Gymnastic
Tournament Year 3-4 Tuesday 26th February 2008
The first of two
tournaments, with nervous competitors and even more nervous adults, judges and young leaders. Each child participated in two

Huge congratulations
to all pupils who participated for their school team.
Well done to Bovey
Tracey and Blackpool,
who will be representing the South Dartmoor Community at the Partnership finals next month.

Community Sports Leadership Award - 22nd November 07
The sixth formers studying their Level 2 in Community Sports Leadership
Award were put under their first big challenge this week when they led Year 2 mini festivals at three different host primary
schools. Each morning consisted of about 75 Year 2 children rotating around five activity stations led by the sixth form leaders.
I was amazed by the sixth formers mature attitude and high
quality leadership skills - they really did themselves and SDCC proud! Many of the staff and parents commented on how good
they were with the children. They progressed their skills and adapted to many different scenarios on each day.
The students were: Louise
A, Katie L, Adam W, James S, Stuart C, Jackie G, Lewis H, Ollie S, Malcolm L & Jess C.
It’s been a great week for their confidence in being a sports
leader and has really helped them in this award.

Gymnastics Festival - Wednesday 13th February 2008
Following the fantastic
success of the young leader’s gymnastics course, their skills were put to the test as pupils from Year 4 arrived at
South Dartmoor Community College for a Gymnastics festival. The pupils participated in a rotation of gymnastics activities,
including stations focusing on balancing skills, jumping, rolling, paired work, as well as a well earned rest. All the year
4 pupils have a wonderful time showing progress with their gymnastics skills, with the young leaders doing an equally wonderful
job, preparing them for the tournaments to follow.

Year 3/4 BISI Festival - Wednesday 14th November 2007
21 SDCC Young Sports Leaders for Badminton were selected to run a 'Badminton In Schools Initiative'
(B.I.S.I.) for the Year 3 & 4 Funfestival on Wednesday 14th November. Steve Duggham, Badminton Coach, trained up
the Sports Leaders and set up the mornings festival with fun and imaginitive Badminton challenges for the children to do.
6 out of 9 Primary schools sent eight children to take part. These children were especially
selected from their year group as a treat for their enthusiasm and hard work in their PE lessons at school.

The morning ran like clockwork - with all the children and leaders
having a great time. This will definitely be an event again for next year.

Primary Body Language
I cannot believe it is this time of year again. Each year Primary Body Language goes from strength to strength,
and I hope this years production will be the best yet. The theme is "Spirit of our Town" and an inset was held on Wednesday
26th September for all 9 feeder primary schools. The agenda for the day included workshops for music, art and dance
and also featured a planning and Q&A session. We have a busy few months ahead!
